And now it’s time for the debut of the new post category in our blog : Travel! If you guys follow our instagram, then you should’ve known that MidSis and LilSis did some travelling to Belitung some weeks ago. Belitung or more known as Belitong by local people, started to get famous since novel based movie “Laskar Pelangi” a.k.a “The Rainbow Troops” (by Andrea Hirata) became such a hit back then. We decided to go there and do some exploring.
We stayed at Belitung for 4 Days 3 Night and we really did a fine exploring at Belitung. Because we visited so many places back then, we decided to break the post into 4 different posts for each day. And here is the first post 🙂
We took the earliest flight by Sriwijaya Air and soon after we arrived at H.A.S Hanandjoeddin airport, we quickly went to our first destination : Mie Atep Belitung, that so-called ‘celebrities noodle’. FYI, we decided to rent a car and drove it ourself.
Mie Atep, 13k
Here they only sell one menu, Mie Atep. The portion wasn’t big but just right for breakfast. What makes mie Atep different from other noodle is they poured thick (not really thick) prawn broth over their yellow-colored noodle. Their noodle is topped with some prawns, bean sprouts, sliced cucumber, potatoes, tofu, and melinjo crackers. Taste wise, their sauce was too sweet for our palate. It didn’t taste bad but we just thought that noodle needs to be more salty rather than sweet. However, you might want to try it yourself as people’s palate might differ.
East Belitung : SD Muhammadiyah
If you watched Laskar Pelangi, then you must have known about this school. This school replica is located in Gantung area. You could spot this white-blue school sitting on a white sand dune. Park your car and explore the school replica. There are two classses but we didn’t get the chance to take any single photo inside as the classes were filled by some tour members.
What we love the most about this island was its clear and blue sky plus those white clouds that were hanging there which made the photos there look like painting. And not forgetting their super soft white sands. If you want to get a clear picture (I mean just the school without tourists), I think visiting this school early in the morning will be good.
East Belitung : Museum Kata Andrea Hirata
Jl. Raya Laskar Pelangi no. 7, Gantung. Opening time : 10.00-17.30
Museum Kata is the first Literary Museum in Indonesia. It was built by Andrea Hirata, writer of Laskar Pelangi. You’ll see colorful gate welcoming you. And as you step inside the building, you’ll see many quotes whether it’s hanged or written on the wall and floor.
Another interesting spot here is Kupi Kuli, where you could buy/make your own coffee. Too bad they were close back then because it was fasting moment. And also, there is this spot where you could buy a post card and send it to your loved one. Very interesting. More stories later but now let see what we saw.
FYI, there is a short story here which you should read there. No photo should be taken. Don’t forget to explore this very interesting museum thoroughly as you won’t know what will you get from reading all those quotes by Andrea Hirata. (Some people said that Andrea Hirata was there when we visited Museum Kata. Too bad we didn’t get a chance to meet him :()
Who don’t know Ahok? The famous Jakarta’s goverment. You might not want to miss visiting his house as it’s just a rock throw away from Museum Kata. If you’re lucky, you could enter his house and meet her super friendly mother just like us. She was very kind and humble. Good luck!
East Belitung : Sari Dini
Jl. Assalam, Manggar.
At first, we went to Vega Restaurant to have our lunch. But there was a ‘CLOSE’ sign in front of the restaurant, so we decided to eat at Sari Dini restaurant that was next to Vega Restaurant. The exterior itself was not as amusing as Vega’s. Sari Dini has two different places to eat : near the lake or near the kitchen LOL. We choose the first one as it’s more cool (I mean the temperature) than the one near the kitchen.
FYI, never expect a fast service here in Belitung. Even our friend who is from Belitung told us that the service in Belitung was verryy bad. Well not all of the restaurant here but most of them were very slow at serving foods. Talking about the taste of the foods, we were very disappointed. The only food that we could at least enjoy is their Fish Meatballs which taste so-so.
We also order Gangan (75k), Belitung traditional food which consist fish head that is cooked with turmeric, tamarind, brown sugar, lemongrass, ginger, shrimp, onion, and garlic. Well LilSis thought that their gangan was so-so, but MidSis said that it was too sour and really-really not her style. Their fried squid wasn’t bad but wasn’t good enough. It’s still eatable but not impressing. The outer was crunchy and the inner was tender, but it’s not seasoned well. Despite all the fact about the main courses, we really love their fried banana. It was fried nicely hence the outer was really crunchy and the banana taste amazing. It was also topped with many grated cheese which made it more delicious. Our favorite!
East Belitung : Serdang Beach
There aren’t any clean beaches at East Belitung. I mean, you couldn’t swim at almost every beaches at East Belitung. If you’re wondering why, the answer is the beaches here are used for sailing and fishing by the fishermen. But they offer you a scenery you couldn’t see at other places in Belitung. Here in Serdang Beach, you could see many colorful fishermen’s boats sitting on the sands. Don’t forget to take some pictures guys 🙂
East Belitung : Burung Mandi Beach
After visiting Serdang Beach don’t forget to visit Burung Mandi Beach too. It is located in Damar, near Quan Im temple. Here you could also see many colorful fishermen’s boats.
Kampung Damai, Tanjungpandan
Our tour consultant told us to visit this Pempek Mamario. So after exploring East Belitung we had our dinner here. Their egg fishcake (11k), fishcake (6k), tekwan (11k) were all great but after eating it, we thought that it’s just like the normal fishcake we always had in Jakarta.
Pempek Mamario was our last destination for the day. For you who fancy a standard and clean, no-brand hotel, we recommend you to try Central City 2 Hotel. We got a lot of help from our tour consultant to decide where to stay and we could say that we were satisfied with this hotel. However, if you want to stay at a star hotel, we will recommend Grand Hatika Hotel which located not far from our hotel. Both are located near Tanjung Pendam Beach and in the city central. Let’s travel, guys!
